While Tesla may be most well-known for the Model S and Model X, their more affordable option, the Model Y, is still quite an electric vehicle. It’s big enough to fit the whole family, can outrun many supercars from zero to sixty and has a range of over 300 miles. What more could you want in a daily driver?

This one, painted in Red Muti-Coat, arrived at Denver Auto Shield for Full Body Paint Protection Film (PPF), our Sides and Rear Ceramic Window Tint Package and our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System.

Step 1: Decontamination Wash

First things first, this Model Y will land in our wash bay for its decontamination wash. Our wash process will always begin by applying Gyeon Q 2 M Iron and Q 2 M Foam. This will remove a good amount of surface grime and chemical contaminants from the paint so that we can do a contact wash more safely.

A bottle of iron is sitting next to a spray bottle in front of a red car.

Now that we have that rinsed off, we can use Gyeon Q 2 M Bathe and a Q 2 M Smoothie EVO to do our contact wash. We will always use a 3-bucket method here to ensure we don’t re-introduce any debris back onto the paint. We’re now clear to finish this wash by clay barring the whole vehicle and drying it with a BLO Car Dryer

Step 2: Ceramic Window Tint

This Model Y is receiving our most comprehensive ceramic tint solution: The Sides and Rear Package. Ceramic Tint in general, and especially this package, is superior to other types of window tint because it provides excellent heat rejection as well as a high level of protection from infrared light and UV rays. It also reduces the amount of visible light that enters the cabin, creating a more enjoyable driving experience.

For the installation, our tinter will print out specific film patterns for each window using a plotter and a specialized computer program. Once he has all of the patterns ready to go, he will spray the window with a slip solution before laying the tint on the window. Using a squeegee, the solution will be pushed out from under the film and letting it stick to the window. He’ll repeat this process for each window until the whole vehicle is tinted.

Step 3: Paint Protection Film (PPF)

The Model Y will now head back over to the wet side of our shop where it will receive Full-Body PPF. This package covers every painted surface of the vehicle in professional-grade clear bra, guaranteeing absolute protection from almost anything the road throws at it. Paint protection film protects your factory paint against a wide variety of road hazards including bird droppings, rock chips, light scratches and even very minor door dings.

The process that we follow to install PPF is very similar to that of tint. We’ll start at the computer where we’ll print film patterns designed specifically for each body panel. Our installers go ahead and spray a generous amount of slip solution and lay the pre-cut film onto the panel. Once they have every edge and detail properly aligned, they will adhere the film to the paint by pushing the solution out from under the film using a squeegee.

We’ll do this process for every body panel until the entire car is covered in film. To ensure an absolutely perfect install, we’ll let the car rest overnight and thoroughly inspect it the next morning. We’re looking for any unwrapped edges or moisture pockets that may need to be fixed.

Step 3: Ceramic Coating

Finally, this Tesla will land under our light booth for its ceramic coating. It’s receiving our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System. This is our most high-quality ceramic coating package with 2 layers of silicon-dioxide-based coating on all painted surfaces and dedicated coatings on the wheel faces and windshield. Some of the benefits of ceramic coatings for cars include extreme hydrophobic properties, UV protection and chemical resistance for your car’s paint.

We will not be doing a paint correction on this vehicle since it has full-body PPF. With this in mind, we can move straight into our surface prep. Our professional detailers will spray the whole vehicle down with Gyeon Q 2 M Prep and Q 2 M WaterSpot. This will remove any remaining water spots and other contaminants.

A person is holding a blue towel and a spray bottle in front of a red car.

We’ll start applying a ceramic coating by pouring it onto a specialized applicator and spreading it onto a single panel in linear motions. After 10-15 seconds we will wipe the panel with a short-fiber microfiber towel to remove the majority of the excess. That’s followed by a long-fiber towel, leaving a brilliant shine and layer of protection.

To finish up this project, we will vacuum the interior and wipe down all interior surfaces with Gyeon Q 2 M Interior Detailer and give the client a call to tell them their car is protected and ready for pickup.
