The Chevrolet Corvette has always been a true American sports car. The roaring front-mounted V8 and rear wheel drive are what has historically defined the Corvette. Enter the C8 Corvette. Not only did Chevrolet opt to mount the engine behind the seats, but in the Z06 version, they also chose to use a flat-plane-crank V8, reminiscent of many Italian supercars.

This Corvette Z06, finished in Competition Yellow Tincoat Metallic, rolled through Denver Auto Shield in Denver, Colorado for Full-Body Paint Protection Film and our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System.

Step 1: Decontamination Wash

In order to get this Z06 prepped for PPF and Ceramic Coatings, we need to do a full decontamination wash. This is the first step for every vehicle that comes through the shop as it is absolutely essential in order to achieve a perfect clear bra or coating application.

First things first, we’ll spray the all painted or carbon fiber surfaces down with
Gyeon Q2M Iron and Q2M Foam. Q2M Iron is a highly effective chemical decontaminant, capable of removing metal particles or other contaminants from the paint. Q2M Foam, on the other hand, is better at removing large, surface level contaminants, keeping your car safer during its contact wash.

Before we start the contact wash, we’ll use a variety of brushes and an effective wheel cleaner to remove any dirt or grime from the wheels. Here at Denver Auto Shield, we use the three-bucket method meaning that we only clean wheels using their own dedicated bucket. This removes the risk of re-introducing brake dust or grime to your paint.

Using our other two buckets, we can begin with our contact wash. We use Gyeon Q2M Bathe for our wash soap and the Q2M Smoothie Evo for our wash mitt. Moving in straight lines across the paint and frequently rinsing our mitt, we’ll wash the entire car with these products before rinsing it off and using a clay bar to remove embedded contaminants.

Once we dry the car with a BLO Car Dryer, it’s completely prepped and ready to move into our PPF area.

step 2: Paint Protection FIlm

The owner of this Z06 chose to protect their car with our Full-Body Paint Protection Film Package, meaning that every exterior painted or carbon fiber surface will be protected with PPF. This package is perfect for anyone who’s looking for maximum protection for their vehicle.

Paint protection film is extremely effective at protecting your car from common road hazards. This can include rock chips, bugs, bird droppings, scratches or swirling. Additionally, PPF has a self-healing top coat, meaning that with exposure to the sun or another heat source, any minor damage to the film will heal out of the PPF.

Before we start installing on the vehicle, our installers will start at the computer. Using a specialized computer program and a large printer, commonly known as a plotter, they will custom design and print patterns for each body panel of the vehicle. Not only does this ensure a perfect install every time, it also keeps your car safe as there is much less film cutting near your paint with this method.

With the clear bra printed and vehicle prepped, we can begin the PPF installation. To start, our installers will spray the panel with a slip solution. They will then lay the film on the panel, ensuring that the film is perfectly aligned with edges and other features on the panel. Using a squeegee, we will push the slip solution out from under the PPF, allowing the film to adhere to the surface of the vehicle.

Once the entire car is protected with paint protection film, we’ll let the vehicle sit for at least 12 hours, allowing any moisture to dry and revealing any touch-ups we may need to do. Once every edge is wrapped and there are no further imperfections, this Z06 will land over in our light booth for its Ceramic Coating.

step 3: Ceramic Coating

As we menti
oned above, this client wanted to prioritize the highest level of protection for the car, so they chose our Level 2 Ceramic Coating System. This package includes a base layer of Gyeon Base Type 1 and a second layer of Gyeon TopCoat Type 2 on all painted surfaces as well as Gyeon Rim and View on wheels and windshield, respectively.

Since this vehicle now has full-body PPF, there’s no need to do any paint correction, so we can jump straight into the prep work. For this we use two products: Gyeon Q2M WaterSpot and Q2M Prep. Each of these products are extremely effective at removing waterspots, dust, or any remaining oils or lubricants left on the vehicle.

Now that this Z06 is prepped, our professional detailers will begin installing the ceramic coating system. The coating first gets poured onto a specialized applicator. TO apply the coating, we’ll move the applicator in a cross-hatch pattern across the panel, ensuring that there aren’t any areas that have been missed. Once the panel has been coated, we’ll use both a long-fiber and short-fiber microfiber towel to remove any access coating left on the panel.

Once the detailers finish the first layer of coating, they will apply the second layer of coating using the same method. With paint and carbon completely coated, we’ll shift our focus to coating the wheel faces and windshield.

To finish off this project, our detailers will wipe down and vacuum the interior, apply a tire dressing and this Corvette Z06 is all ready for delivery.
